Xiaomi Mi 5X Launching In India On September 5; Full Specs, Expected Price And More

A few hours back, Xiaomi India's official twitter handle tweeted a cryptic picture showing two circles, presumed to be dual camera lenses. It also says 'Flagship Dual Camera'. That's it. The Registration Link will take you to a registration page which shows the same image, with two additions; 5 Sep and New Delhi, India.

It is a chance for Mi's India fans to be present at the global launch of a Flagship level smartphone.

Though, there is no name or model number mentioned, Xiaomi is clearly hinting at the launch of Mi 5X. Xiaomi looks all set to unveil their next flagship smartphone in India on September 5, 2017. Many would have guessed it to be the company's present flagship, the Mi 6. But it is going to be the Mi 6's toned down mid-range flagship version, the Mi 5X. The date, September 5, ties in with the model number and hence, hints at the Mi 5X launch). This will be Xiaomi's first dual camera phone launched in India.

The Chinese smartphone giant has already started sending out media invites ahead of the launch happening on 5th September 2017 at New Delhi.

In spite of being a toned down version of the Mi 6, the smartphone carries a list of impressive features. From the latest MIUI 9 to Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, the device will sport a dual camera setup at the back with the Qualcomm's dependable Snapdragon 625 SoC at its heart.

Mi 5X sports a full metal uni-body design with rounded edges which looks. It weighs in at 165 grams and sports a sleek profile. It takes some design cues from the OnePlus 5 but retains its distinctive look. It features a fingerprint scanner at the back.

The device features a 5.5" full HD LTPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and curved glass on top. This resolution gives it a pixel density of 403 PPI. The screen gets very bright at 450 nits.

Mi 5X gets power from a 64 bit octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked at 2 GHz and is supported by Adreno 506 GPU under the hood. It comes equipped with 4GB of RAM to move things along.

The device runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, with the latest MIUI 9 on top.
Mi 5X comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board storage, which can further be expanded up to 128GB with an external memory card. There is also a 4GB 32GB model, but at this point, it is unclear whether it will be made available in India or not.

Xiaomi Mi 5X sports a dual camera setup on the back. There will be one 12.0-megapixel wide angle lens with 1.25 micron pixel sensor and f/2.2 aperture. The other one will be another 12.0-megapixel telephoto lens with 1 micron pixel sensor and f/2.6 aperture for Bokeh shots. Up front, Mi 5X will carry a 5 megapixel shooter with real time beauty settings.
It supports two sims and the connectivity options offer 4G VoLTE, dual band Wi-Fi and it has a USB Type C port, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The device houses a smaller 3080mAh battery (compared to other Xiaomi devices). Though the slim body compromised on the battery, it can cover up a whole day on a single charge on moderate usage.

Xiaomi Mi 5X is priced at CNY 1,499 (around Rs. 14,200) and is available in Matte Black, Gold and Rose Gold colour options. It is likely that Xiaomi might offer Mi 5X at around the same price point in the country. Most probably it will be priced at Rs. 13,999.

While it sports some impressive specifications, it also comes with some not-so-good things. We have listed them here.
At around Rs. 14,000/-, the Mi 5X will face tough competition from some established players like Moto G5 Plus, Honor 6X, newly launched Coolpad Cool Play 6 and the upcoming Nokia 6. At this price point, it will also face a tough competition from its own sibling, the Redmi Note 4.
